My Baseball Glove

I decided to do my Material Cultural Poster on an object that is so important in America's pastime and my life. My Baseball Glove.

I have been playing baseball for as long I can remember. I have videos and pictures of me playing T-Ball at the age of 3. Baseball has been apart of my life still up until this day as I am apart of the CSUN baseball team at Northridge.

Baseball has made me into what I am through teaching me responsibility,Language, and most importantly how to respect others.

Baseball Glove used in the early 1900's.

Prior to the 1870 baseball season, The Baseball Glove didn't event exist. They used their bare hands to catch the baseball and make plays. To many hand injuries then led to the evolution of the baseball glove. Some individuals refer to the baseball glove as a "Mitt". I personally do not as a lot of old time people use this terminology.

The Youth baseball glove is about 9 Inches Palm to Tip and the largest outfielders glove of regulation size ins 12.75 Inches from Palm to Tip. The size of glove varies depending on the position one plays.

Modern Day 2011 Baseball Glove.
Both of the Baseball Gloves above are gloves used by 8 positions on the field. I am unique in my own way as I am a catcher.

The process of how a baseball glove is made starts with a big ole cow. Yes an animal. On quality baseball gloves the leather used comes from Cows for the most part. Rawlings, One of the biggest baseball glove manufacturers defiantly uses Cow hides and Cow leather to produce their Pro Preferred baseball gloves. They then are all hand made, This is in correlation to the $400 price tag that is on mostly every single Pro Preferred.

Pro Preferred baseball gloves are the top of the line in the market out their for the amateur and professional baseball players.

They're are so many different glove companies that produce the same type of glove such as Wilson, SSK, Easton and the list goes on for days. But in my opinion I believe that the best baseball glove known to man is the Rawlings Pro Preferred series.

Modern Day Catchers Glove.

Pictured above is my Catchers glove that I use on a daily basis. It is unique in its own way because it is generally smaller then other gloves that go with specific positions on the field. It is used for the catcher on the field who receives pitches from the pitcher. There is only 1 catchers glove on the whole diamond during play which makes it unique.

Overall I would say the overall substance and presence of my baseball glove in my life is huge. I would say that Simply based off the fact that I touch my baseball glove at least 340 times out of 365 days in a year it is very significant. Almost as significant as my tooth brush Not quite but when you think about it it really gets close up there. Overall what has been important in my life is Baseball in general but without my baseball glove I would not be able to play the sport that I am trying to make a career out of in the next few years to come here.
